Breakout

Last weekend we had just finished lunch and Brady was heading upstairs for a nap. Out of the blue he starts saying... No Nap! No Nap!!! Brady No Nap! Huh. This is very reminiscent of Brady as an infant. So Shay tells him he has to take a nap and puts him in his crib. To our surprise, he climbs right back out. Yup, after 2.5 years he finally was angry enough to climb out of his crib. So Shay put him back in. Brady climbed back out. Then I put him back in and Brady started to climb back out. So right there and then we converted the crib to a toddler bed. He still won't get out of bed by himself, although he can easily do so. Too funny. For those keeping track that means we have kicked the paci habit and crib habit within one month. Now if we could only kick the diaper habit...

Cullen noticed Brady's great escapes and decided to demonstrate his own abilities. Cullen, aka Houdini, is now officially the master of breaking of out a double swaddle. That's right folks, we don't just use one blanket to swaddle him. It takes two to make things go right (music playing in background). Nonetheless, the 'little' guy, who is nearly 17lbs and is wearing 12 month clothing, is able to bust out of both swaddles almost instantaneously. We have tried not to swaddle him at all to go to sleep but this doesn't make him happy either. So we go through the ritual of wrapping him up knowing full well within the hour his arms will be flung out beside him in a touchdown!!! gesture.

The other big milestone this week is that Cullen has started solid foods. We started giving him rice cereal on Monday and he has done very well. Occasionally he has a sneezing fit as he tries to clear it from his nose, but overall he is doing great. At dinner tonight he was intently eyeballing my steak so I am guessing he is ready for me to give him more food.

Cullen had his fourth Latham adjustment today. He was a trooper as always and didn't even cry. The folks at the orthodontics office are truly impressed with him. So is his Mommy. Physically speaking things are really moving in to place. His front gums which used to extend outside his mouth are now inside his mouth, nearly where they should be. His upper lips on the right side are nearly touching. His upper lip in the middle is nearly touching his bottom lip. His upper lips on the left are also closer to touching. These sound weird to point out but they are huge milestones for him. In fact, it is such a change that I see him 'playing' with his front gums with his tongue now that he is able to reach it. New pics are at www.kodakgallery.com/mcgarr.

Surgery is still a go for May 19th. He will have two more adjustments before that time and see the ENT. Everything is on track and we hope it continues that way!

  5. Well, I'd like to say that Jonathan still has Cullen by a bit - he weighed in at 18 lb 10 oz today - but he's still too lazy for tummy time and sitting up some but terribly unstable, hasn't turned over yet and no where near crawling. Developmentally, Cullen seems more like Matthew - good luck with that one!
